Severe sepsis kills more than 700 people every day in the U.S. alone. The complexity of this condition paired with the variability in patient presentation makes sepsis a tremendous challenge for providers working to recognize it and implement time-sensitive therapies. In order to provide the right care to the right patient at the right time, systems and processes need to be well defined. This webinar focuses on early recognition strategies, including the MDW marker, a novel component of the CBC differential for determining the severity of infection, and reviews patient case studies demonstrating the before clinical utility of MDW in the ED.
By attending this session, you will be able to:
- Understand the consequences of severe infection and sepsis if unrecognized early, particularly in patients presenting with vague signs and symptoms1,2
- Gain a foundational understanding of global evidence regarding the MDW biomarker for detecting severity of infection and risk of sepsis
- Recognize the practical utility of MDW across patient presentations through case examples
